Yoga and Qigong Practices for Eye Strain and Vision Improvement
In conjunction with acupuncture treatment, there are exercises that you can do on your own to maintain and improve eyesight. These simple exercises were developed by Dr. Bates and adapted by Dr. Agarwal.
Dr. William Horatio Bates (December 23, 1860 – July 10, 1931) was an American physician who practiced ophthalmology and developed what became known as the Bates Method for better eyesight.
Dr. R.S. Agarwal, Doctor of Ophthalmology, founded The School for Perfect Eyesight in Pondicherry India. The school augments the Bates method with various yoga practices; provides periodic standard eye exams; and does not recommend that people stop using corrective lenses in critical situations (such as driving), but rather that they should continue to reduce the power of their lenses as their eyesight improves. This method has been adopted by hospitals across India with the corresponding documentation of eyesight improvement by hundreds of thousands of patients.
